• Ghostbusters II (610/356)

GHOSTBUSTERS 2 – I like how this starts out, making light of the franchise in a way. The open use of the “2” logo when they re-open works for me; it’s an open joke with the audience as far as I’m concerned. Sadly, there are elements here that just don’t work for me. The big […]

    Ghostbusters (609/355)

GHOSTBUSTERS – Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria! Sure, the film is seriously dated with its effects and style, but it’s a classic sci-fi action film. At least these ghost hunters have a real foe, unlike their modern day TV wannabes. Ray, when someone asks you if you’re a god, you say “YES”!

But I’m a Cheerleader, Dirty Harry, Caddyshack (561/327)

BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER – “Hang up that chick habit…” This is a great parody of that right wing Christian favorite – the de-gaying boot camps. THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU – Pervy dolphins spying, rich playboy scientists, bizarre action sequences, and claymation. It’s basically real life… Part cartoon, part music video, part parody. I popped this DVD in shortly after I picked it up, and I was interrupted before I actually watched it… unfortunate; I think this might be […]

BLACK NARCISSUS (Netflix) – For the first day since January 1, 2011, I wasn’t able to go to a real theatre. The plan was to go see BLACK NARCISSUS at TIFF Lightbox, but I was a bit too ill to go in to the office today, and wasn’t doing much better by evening. I found […]

    Groundhog Day, Brewster’s Millions (63/37)

THE ROBBER (TIFF Lightbox) – There isn’t a lot of dialogue, but there’s plenty of running in this films. Running both literally and metaphorically. I wonder if Hans would have been caught at all had he not had that impetuous moment after the race. There’s a feeling of loss, but mostly I feel for Erika. […]
