CAFÉ DE FLORE – There’s a lot that happens here in parallel narratives. Vallée’s use of music helps define the story, and may even help provide clues to the narrative if you have specific advance knowledge of a bit of trivia that you’ll likely only get from the credits. I wouldn’t have noticed had the director not been there to outline it after the screening, but it really helped me slot a certain element of the story that I didn’t initially care for, where Carole seeks out help from a non-traditional source.

I think this is a film that could, easily, stand a re-watch, if only to get a better grasp on how everything plays out, especially the final, subtle, shot.
