THE GUARD – This is something of an Irish buddy cop film with Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) and FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) teaming up to take out international drug dealers. Gleeson plays a small town Irish cop with an interesting idea of what police-work entails; cleaning up embarrassing evidence from crime scenes, hiring prostitutes, and basically doing anything he wants to do if it puts bad people away. Cheadle is the straight man, of course, playing the more uptight American. It’s an odd little crime film with comedic elements.

Boyle’s plays the Irish garda as maybe a little bit Dirty Harry and a little bit Martin Riggs.

Sergeant Boyle: Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, these men are armed and dangerous, and you being an FBI agent you’re more used to shooting at unarmed women and children…

FBI Agent Everett: Oh, fuck you, Sergeant!
