THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX (1965) – New meaning to being stranded on a desert island, but with lots of real desert. I can’t believe anyone actually sounds like Stewart in real life – even Stewart.

THEY LIVE (Netflix) – Still the record-holder for the dumbest fight scene ever in a movie. Seriously – just stop being a contentious dick and put the glasses on. I still like the main idea of the story; a sort of David Icke documentary of lizard aliens hiding in plain site to subvert the human populace to nefarious purposes. The fight’s just silly, but the film’s otherwise alright.

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE (Netflix) – I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a little bit HANGOVER, and a little bit 1980s teen summer film. It was alright for what it was; a bit of a silly time traveling buddy film.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND (2010) (Netflix) – Nice try, I guess, but… seriously underwhelming. The Tweedles are basically just fat and pasty, lacking in character, the Caterpillar is not all that wise, and the Even Depp’s Hatter just isn’t really all that mad. I feel a bit sad for everyone in Wonderland… despite the place being run by an insane, big-headed tyrant, it’s an obscenely boring place. The rebels take down the vain Red Queen and reinstall the vain White Queen… and somehow you’re supposed to think that things have changed for the better? White sounds just as self-absorbed and ignorant as Red. Yay!
