NO STRINGS ATTACHED (Carlton) – I have something of a rule about not paying to see movies starring Tom Cruise or Ashton Kutcher, but I decided I’d risk it this one time. It worked out pretty well – it’s a silly romantic comedy but it’s well acted, and the script isn’t infantile. There’s two ways a film like this could have ended, and I think I’d have preferred it to end in the way it didn’t, but that wouldn’t sell rom-com tickets and DVDs. Even with the happy ending, it’s not an unbelievable turn of events, and doesn’t talk down to the audience any more than is perhaps necessary.
