AMORE E RABBIA (LOVE AND ANGER) (TIFF Lightbox) – This was supposed to be a collection of five shorts by Directors Bellocchio, Bertolucci, Godard, Lizzani, Pasolini, and Tattoli. The distributer only sent them the one short that Bertolucci contributed; AGONY. So, the anthology called Love and Anger consisted only of AGONY.
LAST TANGO IN PARIS (TIFF Lightbox) – Given an X rating by the MPAA when it was released in the 70s, I expected that it was going to be a bit rougher and more explicit than it was. I had thought that little was going to happen to develop the characters outside of the Parisian flat they shared. I see plenty of similarities to the sequestered world that Bertolucci gave another run at with 2003′s THE DREAMERS. This film is a tragedy from start to finish, but it is loaded with beauty.
