A Jew, Four Atheists, and a table full of shellfish

11.19.08 | Comment?

Sounds something like the opening to a joke that plays on cultural stereotypes, but it’s nothing of the sort. This is the story of Penn Jillette and his cohorts hosting the final step in the deconversion of a former Orthodox Jew; complete with shellfish, plenty of pork, and of course, the Kosher Buster itself; the Bacon Cheeseburger.

From Crackle: A Jewish Man’s First Bacon

Mixing beef that was likely not killed in a kosher fashion nor prepared in a kitchen that also prepares dairy with dairy and with the deliciously smokey flesh of a cloven hooved beast. If only they had found a way to incorporate shellfish directly into the burger as well… Nothing like going out with a bang; all that non-kosher food and all those name brand atheists around the table feeding him.

Listen to Penn tell the story; no Orthodox Jews were harmed in this story, though I suppose you could say that plenty of tasty animals were indirectly harmed.
