Nation based licensing of web content

Location based web content just bugs me… whether it’s the ads on a blog that tell me about girls in HALIFAX that I could date now, or a web form that refuses to accept my input because it Knows Better where I am, or whether it’s audio or video content that’s hidden behind a big wall.
Ranging from not being able to access content on the BBC website about shows I shouldn’t be able to see outside of the UK, or locked off content on the Showtime site, or any number of other location based restriction for web content; it breaks the web and makes baby tubgirl cry…
“For now, Hulu is a U.S. service only. That said, our intention is to make Hulu’s growing content lineup available worldwide. This requires clearing the rights for each show or film in each specific geography and will take time. We’re encouraged by how many content providers have already been working along these lines so that their programs can be available over the Internet to a much larger, global audience. The Hulu team is committed to making great programming available across the globe.”

Add hulu.com to the list of sites I won’t bother with, even if they do pursue licensing for their content in Canada. Waste my time once, and that’s typically it…
