It didn’t really hit me until today how popular The New Pornographers are in places that aren’t Vancouver. I know that John Collins was so busy touring and playing with them that he didn’t have time to dedicate much time to the latest Evaporators CD and the shows around that. I’ve seen their name come up in a variety of stories, in a load of places, but it didn’t really click until right now.

I went to emusic.com to see if the newest album from the Pornographers was up so that I could listen to a couple tracks. I could have likely gone right to mintrecs.com and streamed the tracks, or hit their Myspace page, but I was on emusic downloading music anyhow, so…

I can’t buy this Canadian band’s album from within Canada thanks to some odd licensing issue. It’s like that time I was working in DC and bought the Mountain Goats CD that I paid more than I should have on account it was an “IMPORT” that had been manufactured in Canada. It was also an album that couldn’t be purchased in Canada at the time…
