I’m still a little sketchy on how the “Friends Program” works… Thanks to those of you who have gone through the initial sign up process so that I can see how this thing works. If you’re already a member in the Vancouver area, let me know – I’d be interested in finding out what kind of movie pool I could have access to locally.
Peerflix is excited to launch the Peerflix Friends Program which enables you to view your friends’ DVD collections and then trade directly with them.
Does this mean that I can just swap the discs with my friends offline, and not have to pay the buck per movie? That could be interesting at a local level; meet for coffee with a handful of people once every couple of weeks and swap DVDs that we have listed in the system without having to pay a brokerage fee.
I recieved notice that my first DVD is on its way from someone in Nanaimo; it’s Ring. I’ve seen the Japanese one but couldn’t be bothered to watch the English remake, so I figured I may as well add it to my Wants list. The Peerflix Universe seems to have an awful lot of mediocre movies floating around. I suppose it’s not a big surprise that people are more willing to “give away” movies that they don’t like; which makes it surprising that there is such a lineup to see Star Wars III.
So, assuming that people sign up for the program, and don’t get put off by any errors or UI issues, trades a movie, and then decides to spend a couple bucks to buy a handful of trades, I get one Peerbux (Peerbuck?) which is worth something in the neighbourhood of 1/2 to 1/3 of the average movie here…
