Peerflix: Any Colour So Long As It’s Black…

11.22.05 | Comment?

I find that I am entitled to a free DVD after using Paypal to buy a couple trades on Peerflix. I logged in and find this screen, allowing me to pick ANY DVD I’d like from the ones they list…

I’m not sure how I can make a decision with so many options; it’s amusing. I assumed they’d just give me a couple Peerbux and a trade credit and call that a free disc, but I suppose I can turn that one over pretty much immediately anyway.

I did find that Add a DVD can now be done by name… I swear it wasn’t there over the weekend, so that’s a nice addition. I have a couple DVDs that are odd foreign films that were released as region free or region 1 that and even some that are from other regions… Some of these aren’t able to be added currently by UPC or by name; they just aren’t in the database. I’ve fired off an email to them about this; to see if there’s a way for people to request additions to the database; especially helpful if I wanted to release independently produced stuff that’s not likely to be listed on Amazon or in MUSE.

I get this odd email if I log out from the system and then visit my referral link, it generates this amusing email from “-1 <-1>” (which you’d think would be an error, or flagged as spam; the headers are awful);

My favourite part of this email is the lack of a name for this “friend” that has joined my network of friends… I’ve replicated the bogus email a couple times, and it appears to be sending out the email when a person visits the page, not after they finish signup. I would think that it always sends this blank form letter had I not recieved real versions of this email alleging to be from the email address of the recently signed-up friend. The email’s always firing, regardless of signup…

Honestly, do you guys have QA or interface people? My resume is available online, and I am looking for new contracts.

As for the viability of the company, I found (and lost the link to) a story about $8 Million in venture funding from a couple months ago when I was searching for Peerflix on Technorati, and a claim to have 100,000 movies in circulation.
