I don’t really read the free daily or weekly papers, and haven’t for some time. Of the ones that are out there, I’d tend to pick up Terminal City or Nerve (which, admittedly is a monthly…). I can’t stomach the scavenger hunt for content between the advertisements in the Georgia Straight, so I rarely even look at it….

Maybe I’m not the only one that’s been dropping the papers…

VANCOUVER — Vancouver alternative newsweekly Terminal City is suspending publication effective immediately publisher John Kay announced today. Kay said the October 27 edition, which hit the streets last Thursday, will ‘probably’ be the paper’s final edition.

“It’s a sad day for all of us at Terminal City,” said Kay. “We worked incredibly hard to give Vancouver a different kind of weekly newspaper – one that wasn’t afraid to take bold risks in its reporting”.

“I want to thank my team for their tremendous commitment and dedication,” said Kay. “They are immensely talented, capable people and I wish them every success in the next phase of their careers.”

Terminal City is published by Victory Square Publishing Ltd and distributed every Thursday throughout Vancouver.

I think you are right about not being the only one to drop the newspapers. When the market was glutted with those annoying news tabloids (I can’t even remember their names) and the people that hawked them, I just stopped going near the boxes. All of them. I do admit to the occasional Straight pickup, mostly to get the movie listings and concert listings although I suppose I could do that online. Hrrrmm.
Sad that TC will be no more. It was one of the few papers that I enjoyed picking up and spending some time with.
