    Made one discovery just now in the VIFF program; WonderfallsCaroline Dhavernas‘s movie These Girls is screening at the VIFF this year. There are other Name Brand actors in this film too, but it’s her that I’ll be watching this film for; it shows on October 6th and 8th the the Granville 7, and hopefully there’s a press screening ahead of time so that I can write my own review. In the mean time, here’s the VIFF Synopsis;

    A provocative bittersweet coming-of-age story, John Hazlett‘s (Bad Money, VIFF 99) latest feature details how 17-year-old Keira (Caroline Dhavernas) spent her summer vacation before starting university. Working in a hamburger joint in her hometown and hanging out at pit parties, life seems uneventful. Then one night she and friend Lisa (Holly Lewis) catch their close friend, Glory (Amanda Walsh), sleeping with buff 32-year-old married Keith (David Boreanaz). Inspired, Keira and Lisa both decide to seduce him, and Keith caves to their own unique needs and ways. When the young women’s friendship is challenged, they agree to share. Keith finds he has no say in the matter. Buttery resistance follows the threat of newspaper headlines reading “Pervert Pothead Molests Babysitter.” An exhausted Keith, who loves his wife, devises an escape plan, but it hardly plays without a hitch or bruises.

    John Hazlett turns Vivienne Laxdal’s edgy play into energetic cinema about innocence, jealousy, and friendship. His sure-handed direction draws great energy from a strong cast that displays a keen comic sense and creative chemistry. Caroline Dhavernas enchants with a blend of intelligence and innocence, while David Boreanaz conjures a believable object of desire who is perhaps a bit innocent himself. The four are a pleasure to watch hang out, smoke weed and eat muffins but, of course, this pop-rock summer cannot last…
