Okay, not really; more the process of buying a laptop in general makes me a bit crazy. I ended up changing my mind again. I realized that the most important things; in order of importance; that I want in a laptop are;

• wireless internet


• size


• weight


• price

I want a laptop that is small and light so that I can carry it around; the smallest and lightest one that Apple offers isn’t the iBook, nor does it have a 14″ screen. I’m opting for the 12″ PowerBook which is slightly lighter than the similar sized iBook, and is also a bit smaller in size.

Sure, the price may a bit higher than some Dell or IBMs, but it looks a lot slicker and sturdier than the comparable 12″ units I’ve brought in for people I work with. The Dell x300 was nice, and was about $2500 pre-tax, but had an external optical drive and the whole thing was made of “space age polymers”; cheap ass plastic.

There are a couple hundred dollars in savings on the unit as well, thanks to nicosian working at a college; roughly $200 on the laptop itself and another $200 more on the AppleCare[1] extended warranty.

So much of the software that I use is free, that I don’t even need to include MS Office on the unit; I’ll live with OpenOffice, which is fine for the amount of document preparation I really do. I’m most interested in audio, video, and wireless internet… not Word and Excel.
