Moving day

Well, nothing that requires buying beer for your friends, this is the moving around of files on a couple of relatively small hard drives in the file server. I’ve created an LVM volume group with just the new drive, and then moved files to clear off another drive, and added it to the LVM. I’m now juggling files to clear off another drive so that I can turn around and add IT to the volume. It’s tricky, but it’s working out pretty well.
Once I’m done all the juggling, I’ll likely remove at least one of the ATA drives; it’s a noisy 60GB drive, and removing it should make the system a lot quieter. It will also free up an ATA connection for another, larger drive in the future. My biggest concern with this move to the single, large, LVM setup is that I could lose a whole lot more data should just one of the drives in there fail. I might need to look at setting up a mirror of the volume once it’s up and running.
Once this is all done I’ll see if I can make the system display out to the TV again… I had a couple problems with that yesterday, and I’m trying to wish them away by not dealing with them right now.
