Dance, Google; DANCE!

A friend was telling me last night that he had run a Google search to find a photo of a poster that we had each purchased at the New Years show featuring Jello and The Melvins. Well, he was shocked that my post here was ranked at 3 (and 4) on the Google results page out of 1320 results. The only sites above mine are a Melvins fan site and the Alternative Tentacles store. Not bad.
I’m no longer surprised to find that I show up on the first page of results at Google any longer. Sure, it’s always fun to appear above a company or a band’s official site without attempting to, but it’s nothing special anymore. In fact, it’s something that I have found I can use for my own devious purposes. Marco Beach Resort and its urinals are a prime example, and something which I brought up again yesterday. It would appear that in the 24 hours since I posted about that, the search result for MARCO BEACH OCEAN RESORT that points to urinal.net has risen from the third page of results to the front page. I suppose I could try linking GOLDEN SHOWERS, PEE, and URINAL. Maybe even just MARCO BEACH to make the search more generic.
Google is amazing, and it even has mind reading powers… This photo had nothing to identify it as having any Native Americans / Indians in it…. and still two of the context sensitive Google Ads showed up as targetting Indians. No meta data, a generic filename, and nothing else.
