Big office move

It’s a busy "weekend" in my world. One of the companies that I contract out my services to has their big office move this weekend, and I’m in the new office, setting up servers, workstations, telephones, and generally helping direct movers to the right cubicles. It’s a real blast, especially when the telco drops the DSL on the move. Thankfully Telus is a bit more responsive that EZ1′s techs, and the DSL is only out about 12 hours. It would likely have been less if we were on a managed DSL rather than the more typical "you want support?" unmanaged variety. I’ll be making a pitch for a fully managed connection so that I can bring that web server into the offices. I feel more confident that I can maintain a web server better than some monkey who’s half-way through his MCSE courses.
It’s amazin just how many wireless networks you can see from the fifteenth floor of an office building right dead center in downtown Vancouver. They were all just a LITTLE too weak to connect to, but I counted a dozen networks; some WEP, some public with buy-in proxies, and some public. Last night with no network in the office, I was tempted to run across the street to pick up a long range antenna for the wireless AP I have here, but laziness overcame the need to check my email.
I have a load of writing I need to do this weekend too. I have a bit of a piece on Marqui bumping around in my head that I need to put down, in addition to a couple hours of writing for other people, a review of Phil The Alien for Independent Film, some entries into the other blogs I’m toying with, and some web stuff for Nardwuar. Thankfully, I should have spare time tonight and tomorrow, once the mail server here finally boots.
I hate Exchange… when a machine takes a half hour to boot, I call that a problem.
