Adrants posts about Microsoft’s so-called "Viral" ads for MSN Search.
"Microsoft has launched an online viral campaign called MSN Found to aid in promoting its new search engine, MSN Search. The viral collects together six characters with their own weblogs which link together and out to MSN Search via odd search terms…which then link back to the viral."
You’d think that a b— about advertising by advertising types, would understand the one biggest thing about viral ads – the way that they spread. There’s nothing compelling about these ads that would cause me to recommend them; they’re empty and vapid. It’s almost like a bunch of 50+ year old advertisers trying to design a campaign that appeals to 16 year olds, but completely not grasping the culture. I’d have to agree with Robert; fire the lot of them, and not for neglecting Syndication Geeks; fire them for being incompentent advertisers. Hell, candidates from The Apprentice would do a better job than these schmucks.
My response to Adrants;
viral something that people spread to all of their friends willingly;
"You’ve GOT to see this!"?
The VW suicide bomber, the decapitated cat, the transformer citroen, etc…
These are ads that I would tell my friends to avoid; they’re awful,
they’re pandering, and they’re simply not funny or natural at all.
Tampon commercials with people singing and dancing around celebrating
absorbancy are more realistic.
