According to this piece of shit that is the American Ambassador to Canada, Canada has "relinquished sovereignty over its airspace" since we will not allow the Americans to host an over priced, under functional missile defense system on Canadian soil. So, we can either give up sovereignty over our airspace or over our land? What kind of choice is that? You’re a fucking ambassador, here at Canada’s pleasure, and you have the nerve to say shit like this?

I hate George W. Bush just a little bit less today, when compared to this waste of skin.

Host your own damn missiles; we’re not the nation that’s attracting terrorist attention on this continent, in the event you haven’t noticed. Go ahead, fire your missiles into our airspace, and see what happens.

Time to send the fucking American Ambassador home and close their embassies in Canada. If you want to be an insular nation, just you against the world, then make it so and leave us all the fuck alone.

"We will deploy. We will defend North America," said Paul Cellucci, the U.S. ambassador to Canada.

"We simply cannot understand why Canada would in
effect give up its sovereignty – its seat at the table – to decide what
to do about a missile that might be coming towards Canada."

The warning was no slip of the tongue: Cellucci
repeated several times that Canada’s decision had in effect handed over
some of its sovereignty to the United States.

    "I personally don’t think it’s in Canada’s
sovereign interest to be outside of the room when a decision is made
about a missile that might be incoming towards Canada."

Canada is a country that has lived under the security umbrella of the United States long and freely. Canada has enjoyed the benefits of our benevolence and friendship so long that it is taken for granted. You think that you are safe from the world because United States has gratuitously protected you from its threats for over 100 years. So, you can pretend like an ostrich that North Korea does not have long term plans to threaten the United States with nuclear missiles. And you can pretend that this doesn’t effect little ol Canda. You can pretend that 9/11 was the fault of the United States, and that Canada is immune from any type of terrorism. You can pretend that terrorism in the United States will not impact Canada. You can pretend the best course is to work against your closest neighbor and best ally "in the interst of peace." But, pretending will not change reality, and cutting off your nose to spite your face only makes you appear foolish. The United States has been a democracy literally centuries longer than Canada, France, Germany, or Russia. We remember history, and we understand that we have no choice but to face the looming threats from extreme and totalitarian dictators. We know the danger of tyranny, and we know the price that must be paid for our continued freedom and democracy.Honestly, I am starting to think that many Canadians are like teenage children. You seem childishly idealistic, one dimensional, blind to the big picture, full of envy, and you are obviously desperate to be taken seriously. With petty friends like you, who needs enemies?

If, as Scienter-Online suggests, America remembers history, they wouldn’t be in Iraq right now. They would also realise that the so-called "Missile Defence Program" is a giant scam perpetrated on the gullable American public to enrich the defence industry. The money would be better spent solving the huge domsetic problems "Dubya" chooses to ignore.

I don’t want to seem to be nitpicking, but the United States officially broke off from Britain in 1776, and wasn’t recognized as being an official nation until 1783. Canada was officially self-governing since 1867. AT WORST, that’s 91 years and at best, 84 years. To say "the (U.S.) has been a democracy literally centuries longer than Canada (and other nations)" is a gross misconception to start with. So much for remembering history.

Look at the historical accuracy — or lack thereof — of "Saving Private Ryan", a popular P.R. film produced through the support of the American Military Doctrine. It’s no wonder that Americans grow up believing that the rest of the world are helpless children when the entire movie brainwashes them into thinking it was all about the U.S. exclusively saving Europe.

It’s fine to have pride in your native country, but blind pride turns to arrogance if left unchecked. I’m pretty sure that the people of Nazi Germany also had a great deal of pride in their achievements at the time… until it was put in check by the nations of the world it managed to offend. There’s this funny little thing they did, too, called "invasion" in order to "further their cause".

I’m kinda curious as to what was meant by "desperate to be taken seriously", however. Serious about not putting missles on our soil? Sure we’re serious about it. The fact that you don’t treat it seriously clearly demonstrates the arrogant attitude that people in your country have progressed to.

Dan; and even then, the USA hasn’t been protecting Canada for all those years; they had their civil war and other issues to nail down internally. I would suggest that the date at which the US decided to become our big protector was December 7, 1941 when they finally decided to join the second world war. That’s not to say that they DID start protecting us here in North America – that didn’t really start happening until after the war and the nuclear arms buildup in the Cold War.

The problem THERE is that the US was not blameless; those Dirty Reds weren’t just out to kill American things like baseball… the Americans were pretty xenophobic, and had decided that Communism and Socialism were BAD, and that they would spread and kill both Mom AND apple pie. So, before that could happen, they decided to try to eradicate communism…

It’s a bit like the US throwing a rock at the Russians, telling Russia that they didn’t see who threw it, and then telling Canada how lucky we are that the US is there to protect us. If you didn’t fuck with them, they wouldn’t have bothered you, way over here on the other side of the globe, but you had to, and you made Canada guilty by association.

It’s funny that they apparently don’t teach history in the US any more… Let’s see, where else has the US protected us? Chile? Panama? Korea? Vietnam? Iraq? These are things that, one way or another you helped to start, so excuse me if I find the protestations that you’re protecting us from evil to be wearing a bit thin. Stop "protecting" me, and maybe we won’t have to worry about the future.

    5. 3/2/2005 at 12:31 am

I think we just blamed Canada.

I think the only reason Canada will have a missle coming toward them is because the US missle defense testing couldn’t shoot down the missle.

The ironic thing here is that Canada is the country wanting to be isolated. The issue was not missiles on Canadian soil. The issue that when the United States reached out to Canada for oversight, Canada refused to participate in any decision regarding the use of the missile defense system already existing on American soil. Also, from the above posts, it seems that history is being revised by those who imagine that the United States invented the cold war, or that the world would be better of under Soviet domination.Obviously the United States was a key factor in WWI and WWII. But, so was Canada. Still, do you think Stalin would have stopped with West Berlin and Poland? Do you think Andropov would have stopped in Afghanistan? What if the Marshall plan hadn’t been financed by the United States in the wake of WWII? What if Krushev had installed nuclear missiles in Cuba? What if the communists had taken over South Korea? What if US defense spending hadn’t produced the computer, the satellite, and the internet? What if a Castro style communist government friendly to the Soviets was established in South America? What if Saddam had run unchecked into Saudi Arabia after he took over Kuwait in 1990?I think that Canadians do not fully appreciate the impact of 9/11 on the United States populace. We were attacked by Islamic extremists with whom we had no quarrel. In fact, we had supported Afghanistan in their resistance against Soviet imperialism. Most of us honestly believe that when these Islamic terrorist have an opportunity during the forthcoming decades, they will use nuclear weapons to blow up cities in the United States. There is no easy solution, but we cannot ignore the very real problems. North Korea is one very real problem, because they developed nuclear weapons despite generous diplomacy and financial support during the Clinton presidency. The missile defense shield helps to counter the Korean problem. And, I understand that Canadians want more influence over United States policy. Have you considered joining our Union? I, for one, think that it would be a good idea for the Canadian provinces to join the United States. We could all work together and you could help us to vote for our president.Perhaps you are upset about Kyoto? But, Kyoto was an ineffective gesture. If you are honest with yourself, you will realize that Kyoto would do nothing to forestall global warming, even if the United States were a party. If you look at the big picture, you will realize that global warming can only be stopped with the cooperation of developing nations like China, India, and Brazil. By withholding support, the United States keeps the issue alive, and forces the world to find a real solution; nothing would have been solved by Kyoto.Only an isolationist would believe that Canada has not benefited from the United States. And, I am not so blind that I do not recognize that the United States has benefited from a close relationship with Canada and her contributions. This is why I am so sad to see the current attitude of Canadians towards the United States. If you could hear yourself objectively, you might recognize that your antipathy towards the United States has the same echo as the German propaganda against Poland and France in 1939. Personally, I like Canadians, and I bear you no ill-will. But, I am increasingly distrustful of any input that Canada has regarding United States policy. Clearly, you dislike your southern neighbor, and you would like to see us humbled.

The extent to which “true believers” like Scienter-Online accept wholesale such naked propaganda is truly terrifying. If I hear an American whine, “boo hoo, why do they dislike us?” one more time, I am going to puke. Grow up. Get out and see the world. Travel and talk to people in other nations, and LISTEN. You might actually learn something in the process.

    10. 3/8/2005 at 6:49 am

Please don’t get me wrong Bonny. My complaint is not “why don’t you like us?”

My complaint is, “Why are you so blind to reality?” “Why do you have such a double standard?” “Why do you act against the self interest of Canada and the free world?”

And, of couse, I might listen to you if:

      a) you were not intent on humbling/hurting the United States from your own spite and jealousy.

      OR

      b) you actually responded to the issues I’ve raised.

      OR

      c) you were as vocal against terrorists and dicators as you are vocal against your kind neighbor to the South.

We are listening to what you have to say, but all we hear is anti-American rhetoric, which is not a good way to influence our foreign policy.

Also, I’ve posted this thread in my blog (linked), if prefer to read my formatted answers.

I’m a Canadian living in America, and I have to say all that history stuff is irrelevant. Canada was with the US in Afghanistan, its not like we’re against the War on Terror. You talk about how terrorist might nuke an American city. While that is very possible, developing a missile defense system won’t help one bit. In case you haven’t noticed, the USSR fell over 15 years ago. As difficult as it would be for a terrorist to aquire a nuclear weapon, it would be impossible for them to aquire an ICBM in addition to securing a launch site and making sure the launch went off without a hitch. You seem to forget the terrorists were right inside our borders. According to Occam’s Razor, it is highly more likely they would take the easier route of just detonating one inside a city, instead of going through the trouble of launching a nuke from an ICBM. Your precious, expensive Missile Defense System wouldn’t really be able to do a lot, assuming it worked. And in case you haven’t noticed, the CN Tower wasn’t smashed into. We don’t go invading countries that have no quarrell with us to attract terrorist attention.

I saw that interview with Paul Cellucci on CPAC briefly. It really did not bother me at all. Why do Canadians get there panties in an uproar? He’s trying to pitch an expensive missile defense program to a potential customer and doing a terrible job selling the idea. Cellucci’s logic for our involvement is amusing but after all Canada did purchase the Bomark missle in the 60′s and scrapped a hell of a good aircraft. Canada got smarter but you can’t blame Mr C for trying can you?

to the scienter- on line, i am a Canadian Soldier and a mechanic in the Canaidan Armed Forces. I have these few things to say to you , there was a time when the US invaded Canada it did not last long we kicked your asses. in WW2 you did not enter the war until 1941 the war started in 1939,way to be fashionably late. in the 1950′s during the Korean war the Canadian’s were the as well. during Vietnam there were Candian people who joined your ranks of their own free will to fight.even thogh your own countrymen were dodging the draft.we have never had conscripts deployed in a war, we also helped the allies and the US in the gulf war and Afganistan we did not go in Iraq with you this time around because it was not justified. the US and the other coalition forces did not have the approval of the UN. do you ever wonder why when you step out of your country you are spit on . Canadians are not if you do not belive me go to holland they can set you strait . most americans are very nice and intelligent people but unfortunatly when a large group of you are together you become some of the most arrogan tpeople i have ever seen.we are far from perfect but i would take this side of the border over your side ten million to one.

      Signed
      A proud Candian
