• Wireless Neighbourhood Action

    Well, it would appear that the Christmas season has brought a second high speed wireless connection to someone close by. With a little Centrino laptop, I’m able to connect to either and get some decent throughput. When I get to the point where I have my own wireless access point, I’ll likely leave it wide open as well, but I’d likely throttle the bandwidth for unknown devices. You get free access but not bandwidth-killing access.

    With two open access points in reach of this little Centrino (and one with a WEP key) I’d be interested in seeing how many I could reach with a high gain antennae…

      Just a suggestion… when you do get your own access point, and if you do keep it open, keep the wireless portion of your network outside your firewall. And, be willing to accept that any potential users of your internet connection may be using it for less than “wholesome” purposes, and that any “nefarious activity” could be tracked back to your network.

      Not that anything will happen, but…
