Went to visit the corporate website for the new job….
They have a list of “Reasons to Work Here” on their recruiting section that I’m going to try my best to hold them to. Some choice examples follow;
- At PCSupport.com, there is room for growth and you can effect change and make a difference. You can create your own career and discover how far you can go. — I wonder how far I can go as the guy in charge of reading livejournal all day…
- Walk in the President’s office at any time to discuss something that’s on your mind – he will be happy to listen. — Oh yeah, I’ll be there every day. “Yeah, I just wanted to discuss the situation in Israel, as it’s been on my mind.”
- You will work with some of the best minds in the business. — because they can’t get jobs in their fields so now they’re doing tech support?
- It’s cool to tell your friends that you work at a “.com company”. — How old is this document? It hasn’t been “cool” to say that for years. Now it’s more of an apology when you have to explain away the .com in the name of the company.
- Wear jeans to work every day or never! — Does this mean that pants are optional?
- Enjoy the Vancouver lifestyle where you can still get tickets to any NBA game, — yeah, this is old. We’ve been without an NBA team for, what, six months now?
I love documents generated by HR – they’re not always grounded in reality.
