Current mood: angry

Okay guys....I usually don't post here unless I have reasons...but I feel I need to speak my mind on this..

I am not gay or bi, but I do respect and encourage those who are exploring their sexual preferences.

A friend of mine pointed me out to a blog of a young man, who recently came out to the public to his parents about being gay, and in turn, his parents enrolled him in some kind of camp that, uses religious beliefs and whatnot to 'break' this 'sinful' habit.

You can find the link for his blog right here.

In his blog, he's also posted regulated rules and guidelines from the C.O.C. (chain of command)

The website for this "camp" is http://asafeplace.org

My opinion: While I am not religious in any way, I feel that this is borderline concentration camp style! I find it absolutely appaling that a place like this even exists. If I am not mistaken, this goes against a few human right policies. You can't 'de-gay' someone, and using religion as a means to guilt trip someone into being straight is outright morally degrading.

I feel sorry for this kid any any other kid who is going thru this stage of their life. For them to have their own loved parents shun and fear them because of a lifestyle change is...outright horrible! I know that there are parents like that out here in B.C. and stuff, but....I've not heard of anything SO extreme...

This is just my shortened opinion...it pisses me off!

That can't be right... it must be happening in Vancouver... I mean, that's why [info]cielmer posted it here, right?

I posted it here because I feel that it violates human rights

I noticed a lot of people post stuff that is not vancouver related on here, but at the same time, is something to be highly thought about. It's basically an awareness for people who think that "just when you thought you heard it all" you infact, haven't heard it all...

True, it's an awesome film: However, I can't hold it up as 'proof' of 'degayification camps' moreso than the film Stonewall (also EXCELLENT) is a factual blow-by-blow account of the event leading up to the 1969 riots.

I ain't anti-gay culture, I'm just into seperating my facts from my fictions ;)

I've heard of Exodus International, and Focus on the Family, but so far, not of specific camps.

Just because you're cynical AND informed doesn't mean the rest of the world is.

I'm cynical because I pay attention.

Had someone posted about Exodus International doing something in Montana to [info]vancouver, I'd suggest it was out of line too.

I think your intended criticism of "Hey, this is off-topic" got completly masked by bringing up the issue of his naivete.

Look, I really don't care for your attitude.

Weather or not what I did was just, then fine. I felt that it was vancouver related in a sense simply because people like that out here were obviously feeling like they were being left out or falling behind because of their preference in sexuality. I am sooooo sorry if I subjected the likes of you to something that is naturally not vancouver related.

I happen to know some gay and bi sexual people who felt like this kid does now, and thought that if I brought it to the attention of a community, then maybe people can obviously see that Canada has the longer end of the stick.

Again, it goes back to 'human rights' 'gay rights' and the sort. I didn't asked to be reamed out.

I'm sorry I don't have the benefit of being as angst or as cynical as you do. But I do tend to have a point to things like this, despite being public about it in a public community and not in as something semi-private as my LJ.

Again, apologies.

Who's reaming anyone out? My "attitude" is nothing compared to what it could be; I'm being pretty civil and light hearted here.

If you'd care to check out the [info]vancouver user information sometime, you'd see the very first rule;

1. Topics must be Vancouver related. Off-topic posts will be deleted with no warning. If you feel your post was on-topic, but it was still deleted, feel free to contact a moderator. DO NOT comment in our personal journals.

There's even a list of suggested other communities that could better handle your teen angst. I'm cynical, not angsty.

Okay if this is happening in tennessee can I ask why you are posting it in a Vancoouver forum..I can understandyou anger or your need to rant but keep it to your own journal or one of the other ninillion lj communities designed for this kind of rant.
this has nothing to do with Vancouver

err...well. I thought it did in a sense..

See, I just thought that it is a topic discussed in Canada, especially Vancouver and how people fear it.

Again, it just goes back to being aware of some idiocy. But, I guess this entry was a form of just that. I apologize if it's offtopic for the vancouver community. I was just under the assumption that I could talk about current events on here. Apparently I was mistaken...
